Having the right resources in place for building a machine learning model is a critical step. Unlike heuristics models, machine learning approaches need somewhat more specialized skills. In general, the size of an organization’s machine learning team will depend on the size of the data involved, the complexity of the data pipelines, and the complexity of the data analysis needed.
Typically, these four types of employees should be represented on a Machine Learning team. The size is very much up to the organization.
Product – SME / Domain expert who manages prioritization
Machine Learning Engineers – manage optimization and testing alongside maintenance and performance
Data/Research Scientists – define modeling and statistical insights
Data Architects – manage pipelines and infrastructure
